Getting started
Tap the "+" icon at the top of most screens to start a new entry. Intent will prompt you to take or attach a photo. Add notes and optionally set a location. When you save, coordinates and weather are recorded automatically.
Only for getting the weather. Otherwise Intent works entirely offline. All data is stored locally on your device.
Yes. Location is optional. You can create entries without it, though location data is one of the core features of the field archive. You can adjust permissions at any time in your device Settings.
Data & backups — iOS
If you have iCloud Backup enabled on your device, your Intent data is included in your standard iOS device backup automatically. We recommend keeping iCloud Backup enabled to protect your field archive.
Yes. Intent exports a ZIP archive that you can AirDrop or email to yourself. The archive is organized in a human‑ and machine‑friendly format using Markdown.
Deleting the app removes all locally stored data. If you have iCloud Backup enabled, your data will be restored when you reinstall and restore from backup. Always ensure backups are current before removing the app.
No. Intent does not collect personal data. All information remains stored locally on your device. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
Data & backups — Android
If you have Google One Backup (or Android's built-in backup) enabled, Intent's data is included automatically. You can verify this under Settings → System → Backup on your device. We also recommend using the in-app export feature periodically to keep a manual copy of your journal.
Deleting the app removes all locally stored data from your device. If Android backup is enabled, data may be restored when you reinstall. To be safe, use the in-app export to create a manual backup before removing the app.
Yes. Tap Settings in the bottom navigation bar, scroll to Data, and tap Export Journal. Intent will produce a ZIP archive you can share via email or save to your preferred location.
Intent for Android uses Open-Meteo, a free and open-source weather API. Only your device's current coordinates are sent to retrieve local conditions. No personal information is included in the request.
Audio & photos
Audio files are stored locally in the app's storage on your device. On iOS they are included in iCloud Backup automatically if enabled. On Android they are included in your device backup if backup is enabled.
Reference photos are saved as optimized JPEGs (max 2000px, 75% quality) to keep your archive manageable. They're intended as context anchors, not finished images.
On Android, transcription is handled entirely on-device using Android's built-in speech recognition. No audio is sent to external servers. Transcription quality depends on your device's installed language models.
Intent is a solo‑developed app. If something isn't working or you have a suggestion, feel free to reach out — every message is read.
